The notification pips. Your heart races. You’ve finally been deployed.
But once the initial excitement of seeing your posted state wears off, a new feeling sets in: The NYSC Panic. What do I pack? What if I forget a document? How do I survive 21 days in a place I’ve never been?
Don’t worry I’ve been there, and I’ve broken it down into two essential categories:
The registration desk at camp is the first hurdle. If your documents aren't right, you aren't getting in. You must bring the Original of each document listed below, plus Three (3) Photocopies of every single one.
1. Your Call-Up Letter: (Available on your NYSC Portal Dashboard).
2. Duly Signed Green Card: (Available on your NYSC Portal Dashboard).
3. The Addendum: (Available on your NYSC Portal Dashboard).
4. School Identity Card: Your valid ID from your institution.
5. National Identity Card: (NIN slip or card).
6. Statement of Result: The proof of your hard-earned degree.
7. Current Practicing License: This is what shows that you are a Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist. You can then decided to join the camp clinic or not . You can contact the admin to process your license via WhatsApp
8. Passport Photographs: Bring plenty; you'll need them more than you think.
9. Medical Fitness Certificate: This is mandatory.
Note: You can also contact the admin for a soft copy of your medical report here:
Camp life is a marathon, and your comfort depends entirely on what’s in your box. While the list can feel endless, here are the basics you absolutely cannot forget:
• The Daily Basics: Toiletries, body cream, detergent, and a sturdy bucket and bowl.
• The Food Court: Even with the "Mammy Market," you’ll want your own milk, cornflakes, food flask, cup, and spoon.
• The "Comfort" Extras: A mosquito net (highly recommended), a torchlight for early morning drills, sunglasses for the parade ground sun, and a water container to stay hydrated.
• Sunday & Friday Best: Don't forget your church wears (for Christians) or your Jumat wears (for Muslims).
The Secret to a Smooth Camp
The list is long, but the key is organization. Put your documents in a clear file folder and keep them in your most secure bag. Camp is a rite of passage it’s stressful, loud, and exhausting but if you come prepared, it becomes one of the most memorable months of your life.
To my fellow Corp Members what’s the one item you’re most worried about forgetting? Drop a thought in the comment section and let’s help each other out!
